Developmental Skill Laterality: The ability to use one side of the body smoothly and evenly and to distinguish between left and right sides of the body. Affects the ability to understand words.
Indications of Developmental Lags Uses verbal stalling techniques; does not talk on level with understanding; likes pictures, not words, in books; does not understand "hints."
Indication of Classroom Developmental Lags Exhibits poor vocabulary; can talk but not write with same vocabulary or vice versa; has to be shown, not explained.
Activities for Developmental Growth Galloping, walking on all fours like a bear; walking like a duck or a gorilla; driving golf balls; swimming side stroke; dribbling ball while walking, first with right hand and then with left hand; aerobic exercise.
